TWIN GLACIERS AND LAKE MATHESON - SNOW ICE AND THE TEARS OF HUKATERE
 

In the South West New Zealand World Heritage Area huge rivers of ice, living remnants of the ice ages, carve a spectacular landscape from the snowfields of the Southern Alps to their terminal faces near sea level.

Get up close and hear the glaciers creaking and cracking as they constantly grind down the valleys.

Near Fox Glacier is Lake Matheson, formed some 14,000 years ago from a huge sheet of trapped ice. On calm days, the deep, still waters provide a brilliant reflection of Mount Cook and Mount Tasman.

TOUR PRICE:

  • This tour is NZD $275.00 per adult and $137.50 per child (5 - 12 years)  inclusive of GST ($282.00 per adult from 1 October) (see Terms and Conditions re minimum number of passengers and optional extras listed below)

EXTRAS: (you may select and book the following extras)

  • Hotel/Motel accommodation, Greymouth. Bed and Breakfast, Twinshare. $120 per person per night

  • Single supplement accommodation option (own room with ensuite facilities and breakfast) $95 per person per night.

  • TranzAlpine train to Christchurch from Greymouth $161 per adult, $113 per child

  • TranzAlpine train to Greymouth from Christchurch $161 per adult, $113 per child

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

  • Child Fare 5 - 12 years inclusive are half price (50% on all tours)

  • Infant Fare 0 - 4 years no charge

  • Minimum Numbers This tour requires a minimum of 2 adult fares to operate. In cases where a single passenger is the only booking taken for this tour, that booking will be waitlisted until another booking is taken. Should the passenger wish to go on the tour regardless a single supplement equivalent to min. 2 adult fares will apply.

  • Pickups and Dropoffs All tours depart from Greymouth with complimentary pick up and drop off at all local accommodation places - hotels, motels, backpackers etc.

  • Prices Prices given include GST and are in NZ$

  • TranzAlpine/Intercity All departures and returns are timed to coordinate with the TranzAlpine and Intercity timetables.

    • TranzAlpine arrives Greymouth ex. Christchurch 12.45pm Departs Greymouth 1.45pm

    • InterCity coach arrives Greymouth ex. Fox Glacier/Franz Josef Glacier 1.15pm Departs for Nelson 1.30pm

  • Greater than 48 hrs notification - No Charge
